GDPR: Contact via Find An Accountant

GDPR New Rules 25th May 2018

New GDPR rules came into play on 25th May 2018.  We have used this revised legislation to do a bit of housekeeping.  Once again QuickBooks is providing us with a solution to make life easier via their Find An Accountant portal.

We already have systems in place to look after personal data. As part of our role to set up limited companies, we prepare tax returns, we talk to HMRC on behalf of our customers, we receive personal data and we always take great care to keep it safe.

The new rules mean we have to document our internal procedures, evidence that we maintain our security systems and that we destroy data that has expired.  In line with the new rules, we have updated our website privacy policy to explain what information we are collecting and why we are collecting it. We don’t sell via the website and we don’t send out newsletters or mail shots and we don’t keep a database of contacts.

Website Contact via Find An Accountant

I’m not a website guru and one of the things that keeps causing problems is our contact form.  The message says ‘your email has been sent’ but nothing arrives in to our inbox.  Goodness knows how many people have sent an email and thought we didn’t care!  Anyway, I have come up with a cunning plan! QuickBooks have lots of resources looking after their website, and as we only deal with QuickBooks software, I’ve just set a link up to the contact form on their site.  Ingenious!  I have deleted our plug-in contact form and future website users will be re-directed to QuickBooks. This means I don’t need to keep checking if the contact form works or try to figure out how to fix it (which I couldn’t).  I am awarding myself 10 out of 10 for my cleverness. Keep it simple!
